Regensburg

Germany

The city of Regensburg hosts the University of Regensburg, the East Bavarian Technical University of Applied Sciences (OTH Regensburg) and the College of Catholic Church Music and Musical Education (HfKM). In total, nearly 33,000 students are based in the local higher education institutions , thereby representing a fifth of the population. Regensburg is attractive to international students, around 1,600 young people from all over the world choose to live a significant studying experience in this area.

To show the city’s commitment to its international students, the mayor once per year hosts a wide reception in Reichssaal, one of the most prestigious rooms in the city. This festive event is an opportunity for students to meet each other, to begin their international mobility by being officially welcomed and also to start discovering the rich heritage and history of the medieval city centre.

Regensburg is a major economic, technological and industrial magnet. In the innovation centres – namely TechBase, BioPark, RUBINA (for sustainability) and Degginger (for the creative industries) – the city is keen to support students wishing to become entrepreneurs. These projects, in addition to numerous job opportunities, is a major factor in attracting international students.

Finally, Regensburg’s higher education institutions have developed a range of mobility support mechanisms, including welcome programmes, German language courses and assistance with administrative formalities, all of which make it easier for international students to settle in.
